Edifice Begins Work on $16 Million Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse Corporate Headquarters

14-0221 Updated RACKROOM - FROM PARKING LOT_Clean_marc_smCharlotte, N.C. – After months of behind-the-scenes work on a design and construction budget, the contract to build the Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse corporate headquarters has been signed. The substantial expansion plan involves relocating the headquarters from the Atlanta area to Charlotte.

“The collaborative work between all team members has the project off to a strong start,” shared Gary Creed, vice president of operations for Edifice.

With construction beginning in mid-March, the completed facility will double the headquarters’ current square footage. The project includes a four-story, 76,000 square-foot office and lobby addition, parking lot expansion, and over three acres of site work improvements.

The addition will mirror the existing building that was originally constructed in the mid 90’s to house the corporate offices of national retailer and company subsidiary, Rack Room Shoes.

Additionally, a connecting lobby will tie the two spaces together. In keeping with the building’s original design, the new space will include plenty of glass. From mechanical systems to daylight harvesting techniques, much effort went into integrating top energy efficiency standards, while maintaining key design features. Site work improvements along with landscaping will give the entire site a new, refreshing look.

Edifice worked with Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse and Jenkins Peer Architects for more than a year, offering a range of solutions and pricing – from the best place to lay the addition to the top options for interiors.

“Our combined efforts are going to provide Off Broadway Shoes with a beautiful new Class A office environment,” added Creed. “It’s going to be a very nice addition.”

“We are excited to bring our business operations for Rack Room Shoes and Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse under one roof,” said Gary Rodgers, director of store development for Rack Room Shoes. “The expansion will largely improve efficiencies for both brands, including better internal communications and increased growth opportunities.”

Construction on the new addition is set to complete next spring.
