Hickory Grove Elementary School

Charlotte, North Carolina

About the Project

Edifice, Inc. was awarded this design-build elementary school and worked with ADW Architects to deliver an award-winning project to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. This project was named Best Public project by the Design-Build Institute of America.

Hickory Grove Elementary School is a 104,000sf joint-use facility between Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and Charlotte Mecklenburg Park and Recreation. The school was designed to meet baseline standards for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools accommodating 800 students while also providing shared and distinct program areas.

A large gymnasium (high school regulation basketball court) with bleacher seating and a stage is shared between the School and Park and Recreation and can be accessed after hours without having to open the entire school. The community can also use the cafeteria after hours. Large play and recreation fields are shared as well.
