UNC Charlotte PORTAL Progress & Appreciation

UNC Charlotte

Charlotte, NC – Trade contractors were recognized for their work on the UNC Charlotte campus at an appreciation luncheon recently. Construction of the Partnership, Outreach, and Research for Accelerated Learning (PORTAL) building has passed the half way mark and is well on its way to completion.

Though the project may look very typical from the outside, it is actually quite unique.

When complete, the 96,000 square foot building will provide office space and information technology laboratories to support growth in IT research, collaboration with industry partners, as well as incorporate the current offices of the Ben Craig Center. Approximately 10,000 square feet of this space will be constructed to accommodate a highly secured area for research.

“Our trade contractors as well as the entire project team have done an amazing job thus far,” shared Mike Carlisto, Project Executive for Edifice.

The PORTAL evolved from the university’s vision of being a ‘portal’ for collaborations between businesses and the university, giving the building its unique name.

It is is scheduled to complete in early 2014.
