This senior-focused multi-family project created a 95,000 square foot state-of-the-art skilled nursing center. The project provides 90 single occupancy resident rooms each with its own private bath. Each resident room exceeds industry standards for the square foot area provided to its occupant. The resident rooms are arranged in a family neighborhood concept complete with comfortable spaces for gathering, cooking, and relaxing with family and friends. Particular attention was paid to creating secure areas for memory-impaired residents that are fully integrated into the at-large community. Consideration given to the living environment includes computer-managed, tunable, and dimmable lighting; multiple screened patios; and courtyards for outside activities. Robust heating and cooling systems are controlled by a comprehensive building management system providing individual area temperature control and abundant outside air.
Special service areas for residents’ use include a salon, physical therapy, spa and venues for special activities. Food and laundry services at each residential level are supported by a full-service kitchen and laundry operation located in the building basement. These operations are connected to upper floor living by a hygienically separated elevator and dumb waiter service.
The nursing staff maintains close contact with the residents as they use multiple “touchdown” work-stations on each floor. These work-stations are concealed in a way to create a homier atmosphere, reducing the stereotypical nursing home feel. Office areas for administration, training, staff lounge and human resources are distributed throughout the facility to encourage interaction between all staff and residents contributing to an inclusive and engaging resident life-style. Outside, the building integrates into an active and operating senior living community. Site development features underground stormwater detention, wide landscaped walk paths, exclusive parking for family and visitors and vigorous landscaping serves as a visual privacy barrier from a nearby single-family residential neighborhood.
