Retirement Community Embarks on Major Expansion
Matthews, N.C. – Plantation Estates and parent company ACTS Retirement-Life Communities broke ground on a major expansion that will more than double its current size. The existing 575,000-square feet continuing care retirement community (CCRC) sits on 57 acres. The facility currently has 360 individual living units plus assisted-living and skilled-nursing facilities.
This multi-phase expansion will bring an additional 875,000-square feet on 45 new acres. The cost of the expansion is estimated at $95 million.
The first phase will include the construction of 20 one-story villas and 126 newly designed independent living apartment residences. A two-story clubhouse including fitness and aquatic center will be built as well as multiple dining venues and a large auditorium for multi-function use. A new entrance will connect the two facilities.
The second phase will bring a 100-bed skilled-nursing-care center on the current campus. The existing skilled-nursing-care facility will be converted into additional assisted-living units.
“Edifice has enjoyed a long relationship with ACTS and is honored to once again provide construction services to Plantation Estates. Beginning with the first phase, we will provide complete site development and construction of five (5) 18-unit independent living apartment residences,” commented Wiley Brown, Edifice Director of Business Development.
Edifice’s past experience in this community includes the construction of seventeen (17) independent living apartments, a state-of-the-art 56,000-square foot wellness center, and renovations and upgrades to the existing dining facility.
