Wastewater equipment manufacturer breaks ground on new HQ in Charlotte region
Look for Huber Technology Inc. to open its relocated headquarters in Lincoln County by early 2020 or potentially earlier — if the construction company can get a break on the weather.
The German company is jumping the county line from Huntersville to build the $11 million headquarters and manufacturing plant in Airlie Business Park near Denver. About 75 people attended a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday at the 20-acre site.
In Huntersville, the current plant is located at 9735 Northcross Center Court. Lincoln County lured Huber with the promise of $320,000 in incentives.
Henk-Jan van Ettekoven, president of Huber, says the 85-year-old company takes water treatment seriously.
“Working in the wastewater industry is not a job for us,” he says. “It’s a calling.”
First, Huber plans to build a 75,000-square-foot office building on the Airlie site to house its headquarters. Within another two years, Huber will complete a second 75,000-square-foot facility, where the stainless-steel equipment will be made.
Huber is a subsidiary of Germany company Huber SE, which is based in Bavaria.
