Covenant Day School | September 2016
Project Update:
While students were out shopping for school supplies, the project team was applying the finishing touches and preparing for the start of the school bell. As the exterior of the building was completed, the canopies and exterior doors were installed. The surrounding sidewalks were poured and the landscaping was completed. The sidewalk in front of the main doors included a large cross built with pavers. The cross is the centerpiece of the front entry and sets the tone for all the students entering and leaving the building.
Last minute changes to the interior finishes created a challenge in reaching the completion goal. It took creative coordination, minor adjustments and a synchronized project team to accomplish the completion at a record speed. The millwork, lockers, flooring and final painting all occurred at the same time to get the building ready to install the furniture. The on-site team carefully coordinated the trades to work from the second floor classrooms down to the first floor classrooms and finishing with the large common areas. As the furniture moved in, Edifice adjusted its work flow around the furniture to keep the process moving. It was not without some tense moments, but in the end the building looks great.
All that visit the new building are thoroughly impressed with the unique design and attention to details. From the use of large amounts of glass, to colorful casework and highly programmable lighting controls, the building is truly state-of-the-art and will enhance learning for years to come.
