Wake Tech Community College, Building E

Raleigh, NC

ABOUT

This 15-million dollar facility is the fourth academic building on the Northern Campus of Wake Tech Community College. The four-story, 80,820-square-foot building includes 27 classrooms and 5,430 sf of lab space, a state-of-the art 293-seat lecture hall; five acoustically isolated music rooms; and an eco-friendly rooftop terrace.

This project also received a LEED® Gold certification. The rooftop terrace aided in this certification and was designed to absorb carbon dioxide and generate oxygen, reducing what’s known as the “heat island effect.” Other LEED® Gold features include daylight harvesting, shade louvers on the south side, low-flow restroom fixtures, and no-irrigation landscaping –resulting in a 57% reduction in energy use and a 47% reduction in water use. The Northern Wake Campus is the first campus in the nation to be completely LEED® certified.
