University Recreation Center | December 2017

We wrapped up the end of the year with the UNC Charlotte University Recreation Center project continuing to show progress. As the concrete trade contractor continued their installation of concrete foundations and retaining walls at the first floor level, they also began work on the second floor of the building. Walls are being waterproofed and prepped for backfill operations. Concrete columns at the west side of the building are also being constructed for the post tension concrete superstructure at the Natatorium/Gym area. Under-slab utility work has begun at the first floor, with the first slab on grade pour scheduled for mid-January. Site work trade contractor is continuing with the installation of underground site storm and sanitary sewer systems.

FedEx Ground Facility

Partnering with SunCap Development Group, Edifice was selected as the general contractor to construct the FedEx Ground facility located in Durham, NC. This project consisted of demolishing the existing 410,000 square-foot manufacturing facility and constructing a 237,000 square-foot package processing facility. This tilt-up construction building lays on 44 acres of property.

Brookstone Church

Edifice was selected to manage the construction of Phase 1 on the new 57,000sf campus for Brookstone Church (formerly North Asheville Baptist). Located, just outside of Asheville, on a 100 acre site in Flat Creek Township, NC. This new two-story facility includes a large worship space fully equipped with dynamic audio visual technology and a sound booth, conference areas, classrooms, a cafe, and a gathering space featuring exquisite views of the mountain sunset.

During the month of October, work at the UNC Charlotte Health and Wellness Center Project continues to progress on schedule with the Concrete trade contractor beginning their installation of concrete foundations and retaining walls at the first floor level of the building. They will continue with this work at the first floor into the month of November as they move across the building, which will allow areas to be freed up for other trades to begin under slab utility work shortly. The majority of trench rock previously impeding concrete foundation installation along the first floor retaining wall has now been removed. Site Work trade contractor has proceeded and is continuing with installation of underground storm and sanitary systems at the west side of the site.

Edifice is managing the construction of the distribution park being developed by Beacon Partners on the former site of the Metrolina Tradeshow Expo in north Charlotte. The Metrolina Park development will consist of 1.2 million square feet of multiple buildings. Working with Merriman Schmitt Architects, this project will be developed in two phases with the first phase consisting of buildings 1 and 2 and totaling 640,000 square feet.
